Hello ladies and gentlemen. I recently took a trip to the Lake Lure and Asheville areas and fell in love. I’m seriously considering a second home in similar/surrounding areas. So, with me being a car guy, I had to scout the area for autocross and track day activities. I came across your club’s website and thought this might be a decent place to ask some questions!
I found some videos of HSCC events on YouTube. Pretty nice looking events! Other than the Southwestern Community College location, do you guys (or other autocross clubs) have any alternative sites? Also, are there any tracks I may not have heard of in the Asheville area? It seems like the long drives to Road Atlanta and VIR are the only real options. What else is there?
Other than that, if you have any tips for me, or things I should consider before buying a home (or property), especially from a car fanatic’s perspective, please let me know!
I’ve been autocrossing since 2011, mainly a bunch of Miatas (NA, NB, and ND). I also briefly owned and autocrossed a Mazda 2 and BMW 330i. After multiple transmission failures in my ND Miata, I sold it and went back to an NB. So my current car is a trackable 2000 Mazda Miata with track-centric mods, but it does an okay job in autocross. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere that doesn’t let me enjoy this hobby. 🙂

We have events in Franklin at the community college facility and also at the agricultural center in Asheville on Tuesday nights. There are also clubs that run events in east TN and Charlotte that aren’t too far of a drive.
Atlanta motorsports park is a smaller track a bit northwest of RA. It’s great for Miatas. There is also Carolina Motorsports Park.
I hope to see you out at an event some time soon!

Hey Gerry, thanks for posting. There’s plenty of options out here for car guys to enjoy. Frank mentioned a couple of the tracks and clubs that are around us, there’s also the proposed Oak Ridge Motorsports park in TN that won’t be too far away when it’s finished. There’s a couple more tracks further away too, like NCM which is super technical and a bunch of fun to run. WNC also has some of the nicest driving roads, including the dragon which is a short-ish drive away. If you’re a beer person, this is also an awesome place to live since we have a ton of great local breweries. Plenty of great food options too.
Like Keith said, if you’re interested in looking for a place, give Hunter a call. He can give you a good overview of the market and what’s available.
Hope to see you out here soon!

Good Afternoon Gerry!
I have recently joined HSCC after being interested in autocross for quite some time. This group has been so welcoming and supportive of my learning the skill. If there is any forum that could help you find some track days and places to race around here it is them!
I’ve had the opportunity to go to the Dragon a few times and that is a great place to drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway is rated as one of the best driving spots in the world but with consistent 35-45 mph limits, it can be a bit slow-paced.
I’ve helped a few clients from Florida find their second homes here in Western North Carolina and am glad to help if you decide that our area is one you would like to vacation in.
My number is: (828)551-5190
My e-mail is: [email protected]Welcome to Western NC!!
