Just putting this up to gauge interest as the car is not prepped for sale just yet. Feel free to contact me regarding it, however.
For sale is a 1994 Mazda Miata R package known as Smurf. ~175,000 miles. R package included Bilstein Shocks, a larger front and rear sway bar, type 1 Torsen differential, minor body modifications, and no power options. The car in its current state has received multiple 1st and 2nd place finishes at Highlands and did manage a 3rd place finish in a very competitive ES field at CCR. Reason for selling is I’ve purchased another Miata and am moving up to STR. Otherwise, I’d be prepping it for this next season. This is a great vehicle for the new autocrosser looking for a cheap, easy to maintain, yet competitive vehicle.
Exterior – Rare Laguna Blue color. Paint on the passenger side has faded, but wax covers it up quite well for a few weeks. Minor dings and dents typical of a 23yr old vehicle. Paint on the hood has a touch of fading but is largely clean. On the rear of the car, the paint on the spoiler (exclusive to the R package) has also faded. Wheels have minor curb rash but are plastidipped black to cover it up. Should be repairable if the new owner decides to do it.
Interior – Drivers seat has typical tearing along seams. Passenger seat is clear of any rips. Convertible top is less than a year old, installed by Daniel Semon. It does occasionally leak a drop or two from the seal on the window but is very minor. Center console has a minor crack. Stock radio replaced with an older Alpine head unit with Bluetooth that works well for its age.
Engine – Engine pulls strong, recent timing belt and water pump service back in the summer. Minor coolant leak from a secondary line that will be fixed before sale. Minor leaking from the front crank seal, very common with Miatas. Oil pressure occasionally reads low, but I believe it’s more an issue with the oil pressure sending unit than the oil pressure itself. Engine mounts were replaced with Mazdaspeed competition mounts around 18 months ago. Currently on the car is a Racing Beat Catback which will not be included with the purchase. I will swap it out with the stock system from my new car.
Tires and Suspension – Tires are at the end of their life. Before deciding to purchase another car, my original plan had been to go to a 15in wheel and run 205-55/15 RE71R tires, so I never got around to changing the 195-60/14 Falken Azenis. If you plan to purchase, please realize these tires in their current state are not very safe and plan accordingly. This car has new Bilstein shocks with one season of autocross on them. Included with the sale are the original shocks (3 good, 1 blown.) The front sway bar has been replaced with a Racing Beat Tubular Sway Bar (28.5mm) that helps control oversteer. Included with sale are brand new SuperMiata end links that haven’t been installed.

Asking $3,500 OBO. Would much rather make a deal with someone at Highlands than deal with Craigslist. Feel free to contact me on this thread or through Facebook.

Here’s some cleaned up pictures of smurf!

I’m unsure if it has been replaced, leaning towards no. Slips every now and then on hard launches, but I believe it’s still got a bit of life left.
It does have ac but is currently not working. The harness going to the compressor needs to be repaired and I believe the person who owned it before me (Daniel Semon) said it may have a refrigerant leak. He did mention though that the harness fix was easy, I just never bothered with it since it’s a convertible.
Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

Is the car still for sale ? If it is do you know if it has any rust?
-
Car is still for sale, CountryHam, just haven’t bumped the post lately. No rust from what I can see and it’s been stored out of the weather since I put this ad up.

okay thanks . I recently found a bit rust on my 92′ and I’m considering my options . I like the look of the blue and 94-95 miatas are hard to come by. I’m just skittish of rust due to lack of skill on my part to repair it.
I am going to try and make it to the DS#4 may talk to you in person about it. thanks

I’ll be there in my red miata, but I’ll be happy to talk about it.

Hey if you’d like to talk about it sooner, feel free to email me at [email protected]

Sold it on Monday, unfortunately. I’ll have another one with some more modifications up for sale soon after I swap some suspension stuff around. Email me @ [email protected] and I’ll give you the details on it.
