      Hi all,

With the 2019 North Carolina Autocross Championship, the format has changed. Where as last year was a big two day event hosted at the club whose turn it was, the championship has returned to being a traveling series culminating in a 2 day championship event at the host club. The club cup will be decided on the 5 traveling series dates, and as such, we need people willing to drive out to these events. Those events are as follows:

To sign up for club affiliation, there is an event on MSReg that I’ll link below that’ll allow you to register for Highlands and earn points for all 5 events. You’ll only need to do this once, so go ahead and get it over with. We currently have 4 people signed up as representing Highlands, which is about 4 more than I expected to see. Points are awarded to the top 5 finishers for the club, so we need at least that, but I’d prefer to see as many as possible sign up in case someone has to bail out from an event.

If you have any questions about participating in this series, post them below or contact me directly and I’ll answer whatever I can or direct you to someone who would know.

I signed emily up too. We’re not able to attend the Tarheel event (and maybe not the cherry point). Does that matter?

curous: do only 5 people earn a club points at each event? In others words, do the other clubs have an advantage because they have more people? Are the points based on pax?

I believe it won’t matter, so long as we still have enough players in the game at each event. And yes, the top 5 finishers earn points for the club, so there shouldn’t be a benefit to clubs with lots of competitors other than they’ll always make their minimum. Yes, points are pax based. Bring the civic, not the miata, lol.

Sandi and I will do as many as we can.  Cherry Point looks a bit out of reach.

As much as I don’t relish the thought of the drive to cherry point, I’ve heard it’s very much worth the trip.

Sandi and I went to the SCR event in Darlington this weekend and several people said it was worth the trip to the coast. We may try to plan a longer trip around that race.

This Club Cup format is growing on me, unfortunately I won’t be participating in NCAC events this season (other than the event that happens to be ours).

      Good luck!

Still worth signing up for the club cub. As I understand it you don’t have to make all of them and anyone in the top 5 of PAX counts towards the club cub(as long as you are affiliated with a club before the event).

What John said. If there is even the slightest chance you’ll attend one of these events, please get registered. They’re cutting off registration for affiliation a few days before each event and will not back date a registration. Plus, it’s free to register, so why not?

If you are registered for this event, but have not signed up for your club affiliation, please please do it now! *cough cough* Jack, Gary *Cough!

Tomorrow kicks off the NCAC Series at Zmax! Looks like it’ll be a wet one. Time to get out umbrellas, rain coats, ponchos, kayaks, etc Hope to see everyone there!

I want to thank all the competitors we had from Highlands at the NCAC event this past Saturday at Zmax. We got 4 brave souls and one autocross junkie to stand out in the rain and brave the thunder and lightning to show off our skills and pride in our club. One participant was even spotted walking course barefoot in the middle of a downpour. Even though the weather favored those who ran late 2nd, 3rd run, we fought hard and well and had some great finishes in our respective classes.

Frank and Emily competed in GS in Frank’s ’17 Si. Emily finished with a 73.665 for a respectable 5th out of 6 finish, however, allegations of an umbrella theft have clouded her achievements. The whereabouts of the umbrella are, as of this moment, unknown. Frank pulled out all the stops and took advantage of the drying course to bring home his fastest time of 66.060! That was the fastest run for GS when he came in, but a competitor just barely knocked him out of 1st with a hero run of 65.946.

STH would seem to have an advantage in the rain with the inclusion of the AWD WRX of John Arnst. Unfortunately, with less than optimal tires, it was difficult for him to realize those advantages. However, with the odds against him, John finished in a very convincing 2nd place with a 68.342, with a massive 1.6s gap back to third place.

Lastly we have CS, with Ryan Cotton in his ’16 Miata and yours truly as codriver. For the first runs of the day, Ryan decided it would be fun to experience what it would be like inside a washing machine on spin cycle. I questioned how wise this decision was initially, but ended up deciding it was in the best interest for everyone that we proceed around the time we were facing the corner we had just exited. Ryan’s runs got faster and cleaner during the day, culminating in a strong 68.349, which was just barely 2 hundredths behind my run at that point. That was good enough for a strong 2nd place finish in CS with almost 2.5s back to 3rd. With more seat time, I’m certain he’ll be an unrelenting force in CS. I seemed to have something click in my mind as I left the line on my final run. The car and I seemed to be one, and I crossed the line with a 66.375, a much lower time than I thought possible. The need for an ND is now very strong, and a craigslist search has been bookmarked on my computer.

Again, I want to thank and congratulate everyone that participated in round 1! The next round will take place at NCCAR, May 11, with Tarheel Sports Car Club serving as host. If you’re interested in participating, you can register here. Make sure to also sign up for your club affiliation here, or at the link at the top of this thread. If you have any question about this or any NCAC event, let me know.

Hope to see everyone at NCCAR!

      Great write up, Cam!

*I would like to add an addendum (or excuse) to being beaten: The ST that beat me got to drive during the much drier 3rd run group for reasons unknown

NCAC Points Breakdown after Event #1

Here’s the current breakdown of points following Event #1! We’re solidly in 4th place overall with only small 5 point gap to Tarheel SCC.

A couple quick announcements and adendums from the NCAC organizers. Each club will be allowed one drop out of the five events. From the looks of it, that will be determined at the end of the series with our lowest points event being removed from consideration. Also, if a club doesn’t reach the minimum of 5 drivers, a penalty of -50 points (out of a possible 100) will be assessed for each driver that we’re short. With that being said, it’s imperative that we get together to make a strong showing at the next event at NCCAR, hosted by Tarheel. From the looks of some videos I’ve seen online, looks like it’s almost a roadcourse, and should be a blast. If you have any questions about participating, let me know or comment on this thread.

      Some NCCAR goodness…
